Graeme Park Wedding

We consider ourselves lucky to have been involved in this rustic Graeme Park wedding. It was an overcast Saturday morning on the first of October, 2016, and it looked like it might rain for the outdoor ceremony, but the weather held out, at least until the cocktail hour, which was moved into the tent. The venue and caterer were well coordinated and the celebration went off without a hitch. We highly recommend this wedding venue and the talented wedding vendors we had the pleasure of collaborating with.

Venue: Graeme Park

Contact Beth MacCausland, Certified Wedding Planner, to show you around this great wedding venue. The historic 1722 Keith House and rustic 1830s barn make a great backdrop for a tented wedding. For our wedding, there were a bunch of stations set up outside the tent, including a cigar bar, and lawn games like ring toss, corn hole, tic tac toe, and giant jenga. Words alone can't do this venue justice. Click here to see photos by Wedding Photographer Magi Kernan.

Caterer: Red Cedar Grille

Officiant: Reverend Lisa Bruecks reverendlisa@verizon.net

Reverend Lisa, a great wedding professional, came early in order to do a sound check. She conducted a sweet, meaningful, and brief wedding service.

Photographer: Magi Kernan

Magi's photography captured the fun and magic of this rustic Graeme Park wedding. The day itself was a little drizzly and overcast, but somehow, Magi made all the pictures sparkle. See pictures from this wedding and others at her website.

So much fun!

Here’s the highlight reel:

Here’s what the groom had to say after the wedding:

In a few words, Adam is the MAN. Such a great personality, excellent taste in music and wonderful to work with.

He was very proactive in our wedding planning (directly communicating with the wedding party, providing the evening agenda for our other vendors, simple yet effective forms for our music/timeline organization, etc.) He really helped us along in all aspects of the wedding planning.

His slogan says it all “I’ll listen to you and play the music you love”. We truly personalized our wedding through a collective effort in making our playlists for the cocktail and dinner hours and then left the dance party in his hands – and boy did he deliver.

He loves what he does and that really shines through when he’s manning that DJ booth. Highly recommended for any occasion. I’ll definitely stay in touch with him; I loved talking music together.

Book this man!

The love is mutual, and we’re still in touch!

The ceremony was outside near the castle.

Here’s a DJ’s-eye-view. We set up off to the side, so you couldn’t see us, or the speakers. We set up a wireless microphone on a stand for the officiant, and a conductor’s stand for his notes.

Cocktail Hour at the Community Arts Center Wedding

The cocktail hour was also outside, a little closer to the building. We had additional speakers set us so we were able to play continuously from the pre-ceremony through the end of the cocktail hour.

Special Songs

Wedding Party Procession:
King Crimson – Improv: Daniel Dust

I actually bought it on a discy disc!

There’s no way to buy a digital copy of this rare King Crimson live track. But it was for an important moment, the wedding procession. I bought it on a disc, because I want to make sure that it plays perfectly.

Does anyone remember how to get the wrapper off these things? #KingCrimson #WeddingDJ

Woman’s Club of Bala Cynwyd Wedding

This wedding was planned via long distance.  The couple lives in Boston, but they got married in the Philadelphia area so their friends and family could celebrate with them.  We met a few times via Google Hangouts, and shared information via email and Google Spreadsheets. The wedding RSVP cards had a blank space for requests, so the music was reflective of everyone present.

40th Wedding Anniversary

This lovely event was to celebrate the 40th Wedding Anniversary of a fantastic couple.  The catered event was held in their backyard with cocktails near the covered porch, followed by a sit down dinner on the lawn, and then dancing on the porch.  The weather could not have been more perfect: not too hot and not too cold, with the occasional pleasant breeze.

The music incorporated contemporary top-40 and indie hits with all the best sounds of the past 40 years. Continue reading 40th Wedding Anniversary

Spring Ford Country Club Bar Mitzvah

Music for this bar mitzvah featured current pop music for the kids and dance favorites for the grown-ups at the Spring Ford Country Club in Royersford, PA. The bar mitzvah screened the music selections personally, rating each song with a yes, no or meh. The Philly Custom DJ team was happy to fulfill the bar mitzvah’s wishes, particularly his desire to be hoisted up on a chair during the hora.

We were especially happy to fulfill the first ever request made by a 3 year old guest. He asked for “I Like To Move It” from the movie Madagascar. When we played the song, the boy’s face lit up and he did a wild dance for the whole song. We wanted to play him songs all night. Continue reading Spring Ford Country Club Bar Mitzvah

Marsha Brown Bar Mitzvah

We love to DJ at Marsha Brown Creole Restaurant in New Hope, PA. We’ve done weddings and holiday parties, but this was our first Marsha Brown Bar Mitzvah. There were foosball tables set up for the kids and a great photo booth with custom gifts for all the party guests. Continue reading Marsha Brown Bar Mitzvah

Hotel Palomar Bat Mitzvah

These kids knew every participation dance there is!

This fun Bat Mitzvah was held at the Burnham Ballroom of the Hotel Palomar in the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia.  The older crowd rocked out to the Psychedelic Furs, Duran Duran, and INXS.  The bat mitzvah, and her friends surprised the adults and the DJ team with their knowledge of participation dances.  After doing the Cupid Shuffle, the Cha-Cha Slide and Cotton Eyed Joe, the girls demanded the Electric Slide and the Macarena.

We closed the party appropriately with Simple Minds – Don’t You Forget About Me. Continue reading Hotel Palomar Bat Mitzvah

Knowlton Mansion Wedding

Reviews of Knowlton talk about the outdoor space, but on this particular wedding day, it was raining, so the whole event was indoors. Cocktails were served in the mansion, and guests were free to wander into all the interesting rooms. We were able to provide sound for this location by placing a speaker at the top of the stairs with the cocktail hour mix.

The reception was in a large modern hall with a high ceiling. We were able to fill the room with great sound from our station in the corner of the room. Guests were dancing the whole night to classic rock, pop, old-school, crunk and sing along favorites. The bride and groom made their grand entry to The Darkness – I Believe In A Thing Called Love, and they closed the night with Friends in Low Places! Continue reading Knowlton Mansion Wedding

Long Beach Island Wedding

If This Isn’t Nice, I Don’t Know What Is

The bride and groom rented an entire Bed and Breakfast for the weekend: The Island Guest House in Beach Haven, NJ.  The wedding, including the ceremony took place in a tent right beside the house.  The weekend was rainy, but the guests were energized and not a single drop fell throughout the reception.

As guests were getting settled into their seats,¬†Trevor Collins played acoustic guitar plugged into our system. ¬†A friend of the couple conducted the ¬†brief, touching and beautiful¬†ceremony. ¬†At one point all¬†the guests joined him in repeating the famous words of Kurt Vonnegut, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”
