The Chop House Wedding Feature

Happily nerdy after!

Delightfully nerdy wedding with a streaming ceremony at The Chophouse in Gibbsboro, New Jersey. We played Disney Themes, video game sound effects, and FREE BIRD.

The Ceremony

The officiant — Brian “The Rev” — took the time to get to know the couple and prepared a beautiful ceremony that captured the couple’s unique style. A friend of the family did a reading during the ceremony. We hid the additional microphone and stand behind the door so the equipment doesn’t really appear in the pictures until used. All of our microphones are wireless, and we provide each person with their own foam-covered mic. We streamed the ceremony live on YouTube so family and friends could watch it happen in real time.

The Reception

The bride and groom made quite an entry! He wore a Batman mask, while the bride wielded a light saber. The wedding party came in to Talk Nerdy To Me a parody of Jason Derulo’s Talk Dirty To Me. When the bride and groom came in, we played the Mario Brothers Level Up Sound effect.

The Playlist

The playlist had Disney themes, anime soundtracks featuring Studio Ghibli, and classic rock. It was so much fun to play! In what is a wedding first: we played the theme to The NeverEnding Story as performed in Stranger Things right after You Can’t Always Get What You Want by The Stones. For the cake cutting, we used another video game sound: the sound of a chest opening in The Legend of Zelda.

Safety At The Wedding

This wedding followed very good safety protocols during the pandemic. The windows overlooking the lake were wide open. Seating was arranged by family pods and people kept good social distance throughout the evening. We made sure to have a fresh, color coded microphone for each speaker.

What song is it you wanna hear?

Free Bird!

Six or seven years ago, we did a wedding where a drunken uncle — or drunkle as we call them — pointed to the DJ station and shouted “FREE BIRD!” The bride and groom had a strict No Request Policy so we weren’t able to play it. And besides, it wouldn’t have fit in with the carefully curated indie dance set we were doing. But small pandemic weddings offer the opportunity to play all kinds of things. So, this time, even though we were out of time and supposed to close the wedding, we figured, why not? Turns out it was the best decision ever.
