Cashing In This Ten Cent Life does just that. The mix was part of a series of 6 mixes in 6 days that expressed how I was feeling at the time. I’m happy to say that I feel a lot better now.
Schooners can refer to a class of sailing vessels, or a type of glass. In this context, I’m referring to the latter. In 1991, my friend Chuck and I went on a road trip from New York to Florida. We stopped for a beer in Newport News, Virginia, where the waitress told us that they had a happy hour special on Schooners. We had no idea what she meant, but, as our grinning faces show, we were happy with what we received.
The cover art is an homage to my friend Chuck and that legendary road trip. The music on this mix includes Scandinavian artists, female vocalists, and songs by or about bears.

When I turned 40 I released 6 mixes in 6 days. This was the first mix in that series. It’s called Young Old Man. In an earlier version of this mix, I used Jenny Lewis’ version of “Handle With Care,” but since I already used that track on another mix, I decided to use the original Traveling Wilburys version. The title came from a remark that my good friend and fellow glacier Rob “Tucker Tucker” Tucker made about the Traveling Wilburys, “Those are some groovy young old men.”
I aspire to be just as groovy a young old man.
In the summer of 2007 I broke my hand by falling into a Jacuzzi. This mix is an indirect result of the injury, its effects and rehabilitation.

This marks the first time since the summer of 2003 that I have tried to make a mix on a CD. I have done a number of web releases, and given out a few really long archive mixes, but I think the time has come to make a new mix on a CD.
