Bennie James
DJ
Bennie grew up in London and brought the accent with him, which turns out to be a real asset on a microphone. He's been DJing for 23 years, and not just around here. The UK, Australia, France, Germany, Sweden, and Hawaii all came before Philadelphia and South Jersey did.
His first love is soul. Classic soul, Motown, R&B, neo-soul, 90s hip hop, Afrobeat, soulful house. That's the stuff he lights up about if you let him. But the night belongs to you, so he reads the room and plays what your people want, whether that's pop, rock, dance, or Latin. His mixing is clean and his transitions are tasteful, and you get clear vocals and real bass without the music steamrolling the conversation at the table.
Off the clock, he hosts the DJ Bennie James podcast, a live mix show for everything he loves, where he's just as likely to spin an emerging artist as a classic. He's a tastemaker, not a jukebox.
And he rarely works alone. His wife Faye works events right beside him, so you're getting a team that's already communicated its way through hundreds of nights together.
